The [current\_database()](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/functions-info.html#FUNCTIONS-INFO-SESSION) is a session information function that returns the current database’s name.

The syntax for this function is:

```sql
SELECT current_database();
```

This example shows how to obtain the name of the currently connected database:

```sql
SELECT current_database();
```

The query returns the output:

```sql

| f          |
+------------+
